MISSION: Rest and Unwind

Several years ago, I found a lump in my breast.  It was pretty scary.  I had ultrasounds and doctor exams, all of which told me it was a cyst.  But after an excisional biopsy was done, it turned out to be an atypical papilloma.  It was benign, thank goodness, but it's since increased my risk for breast cancer by five times. I see an oncologist now twice a year, and let me tell you: waiting in the waiting room for those appointments makes me tense and anxious.

Affiliated Agent  KR from Florida is such a kind soul, because she knows all too well the tension associated with waiting around in medical facilities.  Her mission reflects that kindness, and I'm delighted to share it with you all here.

Date: Thursday, 23 August 2010

Location: Osceola Regional Medical Center; Kissimmee, Florida

Time: 2:46 p.m.

She shares her first mission with us:

This was my first mission. YAY! A few years ago, when my mother was in intensive care, I remember spending hours in the lobby ,along with other anxious people, worrying about my mother and watching tired doctors and nurses run up and down hallways.  I know what it feels like to wait in a lobby for hours before visiting a loved one so I decided that I would spread some cheer in a hospital lobby.

After picking my target I visited my local craft store. I had so much fun picking out the notecard, magnets, chocolate and matching box and ribbon.

I took the goodies home and assembled them into a neat package.

I decided to write a message about relaxing.  It's easy to lose sight of one's needs when a loved one is ill.

The next day, I went to the hospital and decided to leave the package in the third floor lobby bathroom. The lobby is close to the neonatal unit and the labor and delivery ward.

I hope that whoever found the package enjoyed it.  They deserve it.

I'm sure they did, Affiliated Agent KR.  I'm sure they did.

MISSION: Newsworthy Niceness

I never read the newspaper. Heck, I hardly even watch the news. I know, I know. I should read the paper and watch the news. I need to be a more informed citizen, but the news is always so bad! I've decided that for a while I just want to live in ignorant bliss.

BUT, Affiliated Agent A in Tallahassee, Florida, did a mission recently that made me think maybe I should read the newspaper a little more often.

Location: newspaper machine; Tallahassee, Florida

Time: not specified by agent

Affiliated Agent A tells us about her very first mission:

Today I completed my first mission as a Secret Agent L Affiliate Agent. It wasn't anything big, but I basically bought a local newspaper (Tallahassee Democrat) and placed a note on the newspaper that read "Enjoy a paper on me! Have a wonderful day!" and attached the Secret Agent L card to it. I placed the newspaper on top (well, kind of on the side) of the machine. I went by a few hours later on my lunch break and the paper was gone...which made me feel good.

It was a small mission, but I was imagining how I would feel if I had walked up and seen that...I would have thought that was nice of someone to do, so that's why I chose this as my first mission. I would like to thank you again for this experience. It's something everyone should think to do just because...but sometimes it takes seeing someone else do it to give us a little push. I have attached a couple pictures for you to see.

This was fun!

It IS fun! Even simple acts like buying someone a newspaper shows that you care. Thank you, Affiliated Agent A, for being a part of that kindness!

MISSION: That's Bank.

The only time I like going to the bank is when I'm depositing money. And that's not very often, unfortunately. So if I were to go to the bank to withdraw money, I'd definitely want to be smiling.

Affiliated Agent A of Florida wants the people at her local bank to smile when they come in, so she put together a fun mission of kindness and executed it quite well recently!

Date: Thursday, 12 August 2010

Location: Vystar Credit Union on Race Track Road; Fruit Cove, Florida

Time: approximately 8:00 p.m.

Affiliated Agent A explains:

I just finished my first mission. I am forever forgetting to carry a pen with me when I go to the drive thru at my bank. So I bought two very cheery little ink pens with funny faces and wiggly hair and took them to the automatic teller machine at the bank.

I actually had to make a withdrawal so I didn't look suspicious! (This being after I actually drove through the drive-thru area a couple of times trying to find a good place to leave the gift...AS IF that didn't look suspicious enough.) :)

But I think I was sneaky enough to pull it off so I'm hoping the recipient enjoys the pens.

Can't wait until my next mission.

Neither can we, Affiliated Agent A! Thanks for thinking up such a fun mission!

MISSION: Cashin' in at the CVS

I love CVS Pharmacy. It's right on my way home from work, and it has, without a doubt, the best cotton balls ever. (Why, yes! It does!) It's clean, it's well-lit, and the employees at my local shop are very nice. While it's a little more expensive than, say, Target, sometimes I stop in for a little pick-me-up or, of course, my cotton balls.

Affiliated Agent B thought it'd be nice to leave a little something special for someone who parked their car in her local CVS parking lot. Maybe when they got to their car, they'll turn right around and go back in for an extra little treat!

Affiliated Agent B gave up some of her lunch break to spread a little kindness today. Somebody take this girl out for lunch in return!

She says:

Today I completed my very first mission!

I targeted a car in the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy at the corner of State Road 70 and Lockwood Ridge Road in Bradenton, Florida.

I left the note card at approximately 12:05pm, during my lunch hour. I think I was stealthy enough, no one noticed me!

I had fun with all the creating and planning ... can't wait to do another one!

Well done, Affiliated Agent B! And nice touch with the plastic bag to protect your gift in the event of bad weather! *high five*
