MISSION: Mother's Day in August

I think mothers are heroes. I can't imagine what it's like to have children, to teach them, to keep them safe, to help them grow into amazing human beings. I am always in awe of mothers. When I see them with their children, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Their strength, their wisdom, their love...all amazing.

When Affiliated Agent H from Louisiana sent me her mission which was specifically geared towards mothers, I couldn't help but smile.

Date: Tuesday, 17 August 2010

Location: Toys R Us parking lot and Hobby Lobby parking lot; southern Louisiana

Time: agent did not specify

Affiliated Agent tells of her adventure:

Good afternoon, SAL! I hope you are having a wonderful day! I wanted to let you know I completed my second mission today. It wasn't assigned by you (I know you've had a TON of emails, so I took this one upon myself. Hope you don't mind.) but it is already time for back-to-school here in south LA and I wanted to brighten the day of an over-stressed mother or two.

I found some "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books at a store recently and thought they might be the perfect thing for a mother on the run. So I paired them with some really cute clipboards and pens and put a special note with each one.

I also put each set in a Ziploc bag, as it looked like it was about to pour and I didn't want these special treats getting ruined before someone could even put them to good use! Deciding where to make the drop wasn't necessarily hard. I knew that Toys R Us would probably be a good place, as well as our local mall.

The drop at Toys R Us was somewhat easy, though there were quite a few people milling around the parking lot and it was a little more difficult to be stealthy than I originally thought. But I saw one woman in particular exit her car with her baby (car seat and all) and it really looked like a struggle. I thought she might like a little reading material for when the baby sleeps later, so I placed it gently on her windshield, snapped a quick picture, and quickly walked away. Boy, was I feeling good!

I attempted to make the second drop at the mall, but was unsuccessful because of all the traffic. I didn't want to be noticed! So I drove across the street to Hobby Lobby.

I noticed one woman in particular who got out of her vehicle and started walking in to the store. Just as I was about to make my drop, she turned around, apparently having forgotten something. I settled back and waited. She got what she needed and walked away again. Just as I was about to make my second attempt, she came back AGAIN, having forgotten something else. She was looking a little frustrated at this point and I knew I'd made the right decision in picking out this particular vehicle. Once I knew she was definitely going into the store, I quickly placed the gift on her windshield and got a picture of it, as well. I hope she found it and I hope it blessed and brightened her day.

As always, thank you for all you are doing in helping to make this world a better place, one act of kindness at a time. God bless and I hope you have a wonderful afternoon!

Sincerely,
Affiliated Agent H

Affiliated Agent H, thank YOU for being a part of the beauty and kindness that's in this world. And I'm sure mothers everywhere are thankful for your kindness and thoughtfulness.

Being a single Mom and partially disabled, I am certain this must mean so much to those busy and stressed Moms who recieved your treats.

I love this! I am a mom of only one and sometimes it is alot just handling her, myself, my husband and my home. I cant imagine how it is for moms with more on their plate. Amazing idea and I love it and want to adopt it on a smaller scale as my resources are quite drained.
